PERSPECTIVES / BRIEFING GUIDE

Preparing a contract-performance brief

Connect the agreement, the business event, and the value at stake.

PRIVATE DRAFT · FOR ATTORNEY REVIEW · OCTOBER 2026

Identify the agreement and the business purpose.

Describe the contract type, relevant parties, commercial objective, and current stage of performance. Note whether the full signed agreement, amendments, and related documents are available for review after an engagement is agreed.

Describe the event without jumping to a conclusion.

Explain what occurred, when it became known, who received any notice, and which operating teams are involved. Separate the facts from assumptions about what the contract requires or permits.

Make the commercial question visible.

Identify the payment, credit, revenue, performance, or protection that may be relevant. The agreement and circumstances determine whether an entitlement exists; an event by itself does not establish one.

Trace the follow-through.

Describe how notices, responses, invoices, adjustments, and open items are currently tracked. Identify who would confirm whether an agreed payment, credit, or other resolution was actually reflected in the business records.

Keep an initial inquiry nonconfidential. Do not upload or send contracts through this review site. This guide offers preparation suggestions, not legal advice or a statement of contractual entitlements.
